Mary’s Yes — Saying Yes to God Without All the Details

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be unto me according to Your word.” — Luke 1:38

There is a moment in Scripture that still takes my breath away — not because of the miracle itself, but because of Mary’s response to it. A young girl, likely afraid and overwhelmed, receives news that would change history. She is chosen to carry the Messiah. She will become the mother of Jesus. No plan explained. No guarantee of acceptance. No clarity about the future.

And yet, her answer was simple and surrendered:

“May it be unto me according to Your word.”

Mary said yes — without a blueprint, without details, without certainty.

She did not ask for a timeline.She did not request step-by-step instructions.She did not negotiate terms.

Her yes came before she knew how God would work it out.

In a world where we crave clarity before obedience, Mary teaches us something countercultural — obedience often comes before understanding. God rarely hands us the whole plan. Instead, He invites us to trust Him with one faithful step at a time.

A Yes That Cost Something

Mary’s yes was not easy.It came with risk — judgment from others, potential shame, the weight of carrying a divine assignment. She didn’t know she would watch her Son heal the sick, raise the dead, walk on water… or later hang on a cross.

She did not know the joy ahead or the sorrow ahead — but she still said yes.

And that yes changed generations.

Sometimes God calls us into places that stretch us.Sometimes He leads us into assignments we do not feel qualified for.Sometimes He births purpose through a trembling yes.

What Does This Mean for Us as Women Today?

We are not carrying the Savior physically like Mary did, but many of us are carrying something God has planted in us — a dream, a business, a book, a ministry, a healing journey, a new beginning. Sometimes it feels too heavy, too uncertain, too big.

But God does not ask us to understand everything.He asks us to be willing.

Your yes might look like:

• starting the book God told you to write• forgiving someone who hurt you deeply• launching the business you have held in your heart• saying yes to healing, counseling, or restoration• mentoring another woman who needs your strength• trusting God with your future when you can’t see clearly

Like Mary, our yes might feel small — but it can change so much.

Faith Over Fear

We don’t become fearless by knowing the outcome — we become fearless by trusting the One who holds it. Mary said yes not because she understood the mission, but because she trusted the God who gave it.

Sometimes obedience looks like:

✨ “Lord, I don’t know how, but I trust You.”✨ “God, I feel unprepared, but I’m willing.”✨ “Father, I surrender my timeline and take Your hand.”

One yes can unlock purpose, healing, and destiny.

As we continue through this Advent season, may Mary’s yes inspire us to lay down doubt and pick up faith. May we become women who obey even when we can’t see the full picture. Women who trust more than we fear. Women who answer God with surrender instead of hesitation.

May we have the courage to say yes — even trembling.

Because God uses ordinary women with obedient hearts to do extraordinary things
